Vange Hill

One of the area's that is situated close to Pitsea is Vange Hill open space, this is a 30 arce site of former plotlands and is now a local nature reserve, perfect for the dog walker living in the Vange area. There are some great views overlooking the South Essex marshes and the Thames estuary, most of the open pathways are good for dog walking all year round and the area is wide open in places which is perfect for letting the dogs off. Going off path is good in warmer months and the grass areas are maintained, there is also a path to Basildon golf course for a longer walk. The area is open all day, every day and access is by Vange Hill Drive, parking is available next to the Vange Community Centre and the entrance is about 200 yards away across the playing field, there is also access from Mapleford Sweep and Hillcrest View.

Holy Cross Playing Fields

Holy Cross playing fields are situated next to Holy Cross Church at the top of Church Road, Basildon. There is one field with two football pitches and a cricket pitch next to the childrens play area. Behind the church are three other fields. one larger field with two rugby pitches and one football pitch, one field with one football pitch on and one smaller field, they all run adjacent to Cranes Farm Road. With plenty of free parking along Church Road this area is perfect for the dog walker who lives in Basildon. The grass areas are well maintained throughout the year, there are several poo bins in the main field and one at the end of the field with one football pitch in.

Pitsea Health Walk

Pitsea health walk runs from just behind Pitsea railway station and the path leads all the way along to St Margaret's Church, Bowers Glifford. This is a lovely dog walk, you can park on Brackendake Avenue, however there are parking rescrictions between 11AM and 12AM everyday. The entrance is situated behind the dog bin opposite Fieldway. The path from the entrance to the church is just over a mile in length and runs parallel to the railway line. The path is solid in the summer months, I would recommend wearing a good pair of boots in the winter months as it can be very muddy. The area is very open and is perfect if you want to let your dog off lead. From time to time there are horses in the fields. If you want a longer walk, when you reach the road by the Church turn right and then turn right by the entrance to Bowers March RSPB, this is a solid pathway that runs in a half circle back to the church and is about 3 miles long.

Langdon Hills Recreation Ground

Landgon Hills recreation ground can be accessed by car from the end of New Avenue, Langdon Hills, there is a fairly large car park. The car park is open 6:30am to 9:30pm May to August and 7:00am to 8:00pm September to April. Access is also available from Forest Glade, Langdon Hills and Healthleigh Drive, Langdon Hills, both are a very short walk to the recreation ground. The grass is maintained throughout the year. This field is great for the dog walker in the Langdon Hills area, about the size of six football pitches and very popular with dog walkers in the area. Located directly behind the field is one of the many path ways of the Langdon Hills nature reserve, if you would like a much longer dog walk, one way goes towards Westley Heights and the other way goes towards the Plotlands and nature reserve shop.
